Photographed in the Camargue, France, between 2018 and 2019, the inspiration for this series of photographs is based on the traditions of the shepherds or of the cowboys and girls of the Camargue. Wearing shirts printed in blocks of colour, this style of dress has been worn by the “Guardians” of the region since the XVI Century. The Guardians, as they are known wear their patterned shirts most of the time, but are particularly impressively dressed for community events or parties. The idea originates from a historical context, but the exuberance of the patterns also expresses something about the cowboys’ and girls’ way of life. They were photographed rounding up baby bulls and showcasing their skills during a ‘ferrade’.

Framed in a beautiful white frame flushed to the edge of the image. Please allow 2-4 weeks for framing and shipping.

As seen in Young Riders exhibition at Omnibus Theatre, Clapham Common, London, April 2024.
